All riders must be at least 8 years old and be able to control the horse for the hour-long beach ride. All riders must be at least 10 years old and be able to control the horse for the 90 minute beach ride. Any child under 10 years old is subject to being lead-lined by the guide horse. If the guide determines that your child is not capable of controlling their horse they will convert the rider to a tandem saddle with a parent. Tandem saddles are available for children over 5 years old and up with a parent for a fee with a max combined weight limit of 250 pounds.
Our weight limit for riders is 250 pounds. This limit is enforced for the safety of our horses. We do have a scale and you will be weighed if the guide is concerned your weight is over the limit. If you book a ride and are over the weight limit you will not be permitted to ride and will be charged the full amount of your ride because we have turned down someone else who could have ridden.
Wearing closed-toed shoes and shorts or long pants are recommended.
Bring suntan lotion and bug spray and apply before your ride. Leave valuables in your car that you may drop or lose along your ride (sunglasses, wallet, etc.)
Helmets – Helmet usage is recommended but not required. Due to Wuhan Flu/Covid 19 we are not currently providing helmets, but You can bring your own if you would like.
Riders with any physical, mental, or emotional concerns should let us know prior to booking a ride so the issues can be addressed and accommodations can be made.
Know that you may get dirty on the ride. On our 90 minute rides we generally cross over water and you could get wet. A change of shoes or clothes is recommended for your comfort.
Know we reserve the right to cancel rides due to high winds, heavy rain, excessively hot weather or unforeseen circumstances, but we will ride in light rain.
*Please show up at least 15 minutes early at the barn or the Visitor Center to check-in. To get to the barn you will turn East from NC 12 on to Driftwood Drive. From there you go straight in to the campground through a set of metal gates and go straight to the back of the campground. You will see a big red barn to your left. Park in front of the barn and walk through the break in the gate to the left of the barn. Your horses will be saddling up straight ahead from their. Every rider must complete a waiver before the ride leaves the barn. Any rider under the age of 18 must have a waiver signed by the child's parent or guardian. Waivers will be sent to you & you may sign & fill it out ahead of time by printing it off. If you cannot print it we will provide them at your arrival as well.
At a minimum, we hold reservation spots with credit card information and we request a 25% deposit, or you may pay for the entire ride via credit card when you book. You may also pay in cash when checking in for your convenience.
We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover. We recommend making your reservations several days in advance to secure a spot before it is fully booked. Same-day bookings occasionally may be available, but the earlier you book, the better the availability will be.*
What do we do if it looks like rain?
If we have to cancel your ride due to weather and we have not completed more than 75% of your ride, we will reschedule your activity, or provide you with a raincheck that is good for 12 months. Rides that have done over 75% of the trip will be considered a full ride. Please call before your ride if you need a weather update at 252-515-9441. It often does not rain on Cedar Island when it is raining elsewhere due to the large bodies of water on both sides. If it is a mild rain or sprinkling, we will ride. WE DO NOT RIDE IF IT IS THUNDERING OR LIGHTNING FOR EVERYONE'S SAFETY INCLUDING THE HORSES.
How do cancellations work?
CANCELLATIONS – For cancellations made more than 24 hours in advance there is a $10 admin fee charged to your account. If you cancel less than 24 hours before the ride, we will charge you a cancellation fee of the full amount of all horse rides you have booked. If you reschedule & complete your ride within 30 days you can do so for a $100.00 fee for the replacement ride. We often have a waiting list for rides & must charge for no shows or late cancellations. Our guides also spend a great deal of time preparing for each ride prior to your arrival.
**Rain checks are vouchers valid for 12 months, allowing you to reschedule your missed ride for a future date. You may also gift your ride to another person. There are no refunds after a ride is paid for.
We strive to provide a safe and family-oriented place where people can enjoy the love of their animal. We encourage people to spend time not only with their horses but with others here at the stable.
